Chapter 3 - THE SECRET WILL OF THORNE LOGISTICS

The early morning light that filtered through the high-security glass of Ray’s private office was a pale, icy gray.
I sat in the comfortable leather armchair, my hospital gown replaced by a warm wool cardigan, my fingers quietly tracing the handle of a mug of warm herbal tea.
Marcus sat across from me, his head buried in his hands, his navy suit jacket discarded on the floor as he struggled to process the document Ray had placed on the desk.
"Your father didn't die of a natural heart attack, Khloe," Ray said softly, his eyes reflecting a deep, permanent grief.
"Arthur discovered that Victoria Rossi had been systematically siphoning millions of dollars from our family's logistics pension fund to cover her family's bankrupt real estate investments in Milan."
"When he threatened to expose her to the federal regulators, he suddenly collapsed in his study."
"The official medical report signed by Dr. Sterling claimed it was acute cardiac arrest, but I knew my brother had no history of heart disease."
"Before he died, he secretly altered the bylaws of Thorne Logistics."
"He placed the entire twelve-million-dollar maritime shipping trust into an exclusive, biometric account that can only be unlocked by you—or your biological child."
I looked down at my swollen belly, a sudden, cold realization washing over my panic like liquid nitrogen.
"That's why they forced me to marry Marcus," I whispered, my voice trembling.
"Victoria and Isabella didn't want a simple corporate alliance."
"They needed my child to gain the biometric verification keys to the trust before the federal audit closes on Friday morning."
"Yes," Mark Ellison, our family's private attorney, confirmed as he stepped into the room, carrying a locked silver briefcase.
"If the patents and trust funds aren't integrated into the Rossi holding group by noon tomorrow, their entire corporate empire will face immediate, public bankruptcy."
"They have been systematically drugging your prenatal supplements with low-dose clinical sedatives to simulate maternal instability."
"They wanted to declare you mentally incompetent right after the birth, leaving Marcus with the sole guardianship of the child and the trust."
"And you, Marcus?" I asked, my green eyes locking onto my husband's face with a sharp, freezing intensity.
"Did you know they were poisoning the woman you swore to protect?"
Marcus looked up, his face pale, his eyes red and swollen with tears of pure, unadulterated shame.
"I swear to God, Khloe, I had no idea," Marcus choked out, his voice cracking under the weight of his guilt.
"My mother told me you were just experiencing severe, postpartum anxiety."
"She said the blue pills Dr. Sterling prescribed were designed to keep your blood pressure stable."
"I was so focused on saving the hospital foundation, so focused on the speeches, that I didn't see the venom they were feeding you."
May you like
"But I am going to make this right, Khloe."
"Even if it means tearing my own family's name to the ground."
