Chapter 5 - THE GALA UNMASKING

The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was a breathtaking, suffocating monument to old-money power and corporate corruption.

Under the towering crystal chandeliers, three hundred of New York’s most prominent billionaires and media heirs raised their glasses to celebrate the Thorne-Rossi alliance.

Victoria Rossi stood at the center of the stage, her deep crimson sequined evening gown glittering brilliantly under the bright lights, her face carrying a polished, practiced smile.

Beside her stood Isabella, her dark wine dress matching the elegant, predatory confidence that had defined her family for generations.

"Ladies and gentlemen, corporate partners," Victoria announced, her smooth, high-society voice carrying a chilling, theatrical sweetness.

"Tonight, as we prepare to enter the New Year, we celebrate the absolute integration of our maritime logistics networks."

"Due to the ongoing, tragic medical incapacitation of my daughter-in-law, Khloe, our committee has assumed full, emergency guardianship over the Thorne patents."

She raised a gold-plated fountain pen, preparing to slide the nib across the final signature line of the multi-million-dollar deeds.

"The signature on those documents constitutes federal wire fraud, Victoria," a cold, clear voice cut through the grand ballroom like a steel blade.

The heavy mahogany double doors of the ballroom were violently thrown open, the wood panels vibrating against the stone frame.

I walked through the threshold, my head held high, my posture rigid, commanding, and completely unbreakable.

I wore a sharp, tailored white power suit, my long blonde hair flowing around my shoulders, my hands cradling my seven-month-pregnant belly.

Beside me walked Marcus, his navy suit immaculate, his face carrying a lethal, crystalline focus that made his mother’s breath halt in her throat.

Behind us walked Dr. Raymond Thorne and Captain Bennett, flanked by six armed federal marshals in dark tactical vests.

"Khloe?" Victoria gasped, the gold pen slipping from her shaking fingers and clattering loudly against the polished stage floor.

Her face turned an instant, pasty white under the warm light of the chandeliers, her knees buckling slightly as the reality of our return struck her mind.

"What is the meaning of this?" Victoria shrieked, her high-society composure entirely evaporating into a mask of raw, animalistic panic.

"Security! Remove this trespassing, mentally unstable woman from my gala immediately!"

"The security team doesn't work for you anymore, Victoria," Marcus Bennett announced, his voice carrying the absolute, military authority of a federal raid.

"And your private empire of lies is officially over."
