Part 4: The Clean Balance

The grand courtroom downtown was dead silent when the federal judge stepped up to the bench at 9:00 a.m. the following morning.
Ethan and Brandon Prescott sat at the defense table, their designer suits wrinkled, their faces completely pale as they stared at the floor.
The confident, arrogant smiles they had worn in the hospital room twelve hours ago had been completely erased.
Judge Eleanor Thornton reviewed the forensic medical files and the corporate tracking data resting on her desk.
"Effective immediately," Judge Thornton announced, her gavel striking the wooden block with a sharp, final crack.
"This court is issuing a permanent protective order against Ethan Prescott and all associated members of the Prescott firm."
She signed the master registry document with a heavy, decisive stroke of her pen.
"Furthermore, under the provisions of the federal defense procurement act, Prescott Infrastructure is officially blacklisted from all government contract indices."
Ethan fell back into his chair, his hands shaking as a pair of plainclothes federal marshals moved behind him.
The steel handcuffs clicked shut around his wrists, a sharp, metallic sound that signaled the absolute liquidation of his legacy.
I stood up, adjusting the lapels of my immaculate uniform jacket as I looked at the family who had treated my daughter like an object to be broken.
People like the Prescotts always believe that because they carry a proud name, a loud opinion, and a multi-million-dollar threat, they can command who gets ruined.
They look at a quiet military officer and mistake her discipline for weakness.
They completely forget that the same woman who knows how to defend a nation is the one who knows exactly how to use the law to dismantle a predator line by line.
I walked out of the courthouse into the bright morning sunshine, Emily walking steady and confident right beside me.
The old routine was torn to shreds.
The liars were contained in a maximum-security compliance audit.

The ledger was perfectly, beautifully balanced.
And our true empire was finally, safely ours.
