Chapter 3 - THE SECRET DIAGNOSIS

The transition from a discarded, bruised mother to a patient under forensic medical protection was seamless.

Within forty minutes, I was admitted to the private observation wing of the county hospital, my head wrapped in clean gauze, my vitals monitored by a trusted medical team.

My son, Arturo, who had served as a military JAG attorney before establishing his own private practice, sat by my bedside, his face a mask of cold, unyielding fury.

"The CT scan confirms a mild concussion and deep tissue bruising along your scalp, Mom," Arturo said, his fingers tightening around his leather-bound legal pad.

"But Mrs. Alvarez's video has already been certified by the state forensic analyst, and the local prosecutor has issued an immediate, non-bailable arrest warrant for Derek."

"They wanted to use a fraudulent conservatorship to seize the three-million-dollar property deed before the trust could transfer the funds to the Navy veterans' charity," I whispered, my voice hoarse but entirely resolved.

"They believed that because I was sixty-seven, because I lived alone, I would sign the papers just to make the shouting stop."

"They forgot that our father did not raise us to surrender, Arturo."

"The forensic team is already pulling the corporate registries for Derek's real estate firm," Arturo confirmed, a cold, calculated smile touching his lips.

"We are going to execute a federal audit on their public development grants before the market opens on Monday morning."
