Part 3: The Price of Blood

The silence that filled the bridal suite was absolute. Carmen’s smug, triumphant expression completely dissolved, her gold jewelry suddenly looking heavy and pathetic against her trembling skin.

"Alexander, let's not be rash," Carmen stammered, attempting to smooth down her gold dress, her voice losing its iron-clad confidence. "We are family now. Javier and Sofia love each other. A minor asset dispute shouldn't ruin a multi-million-dollar merger between our names."

"We are not family," my father said, his voice cutting through the room like a razor blade.

He turned to his lead security officer. "Sam. Call the Dallas Police Department. Instruct the chief that I am personally filing charges for aggravated assault, extortion, and unlawful restraint. And call the state bar association—I want Javier’s legal license suspended by sunrise."

"You can't do that!" Javier shouted, his voice cracking with sudden panic. "My career—I have a federal court appointment next month!"

"You had a career," Alexander corrected him coldly.

My father reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, tapping the screen once to bring up a live data feed. He held it up so Carmen could see the rapidly shifting numbers. "As of two minutes ago, I initiated a margin call on every single commercial line of credit tied to Robles International. By 9:00 AM tomorrow, your primary lenders will freeze your operational accounts. Your construction projects will halt. Your investors will flee. You wanted Sofia’s condo for 'family security,' Carmen? Tomorrow, you’ll be liquidating your own home just to pay the legal fees for your son’s criminal trial."

Carmen sank onto the edge of the sofa, her hand flying to her chest as her entire world collapsed in real-time. The six women who had laughed while helping her abuse me were now quietly sliding along the walls, frantically trying to slip out the door to escape the fallout.

Alexander turned back to me, dropping to his knees once more. He stripped off his heavy dark coat, wrapping it securely around my shivering, bruised shoulders. He lifted me effortlessly into his arms, keeping my head pressed against his chest so I wouldn't have to look at the people who had tried to break me.

"Let's go home, Sofia," he whispered into my hair.

As we walked out of the suite, the distant sound of police sirens began to echo through the streets of Uptown Dallas, cutting through the autumn night. Javier’s frantic arguments and Carmen's desperate pleas faded into the distance behind us.

I leaned against my father's shoulder, taking a deep, ragged breath as the heavy doors of the hotel opened into the crisp morning air. The white wedding dress was ruined, and the scars would take time to heal, but as my father’s private car pulled up to the curb, I knew the Robles family had learned a lethal lesson: you can buy gold, you can buy influence, but you can never afford the wrath of a father protecting his own.
