Part 2: The Eighty-Fourth Floor

The blood-orange sunset was bleeding across the Chicago skyline by the time the black Bentley cut through the gridlock traffic like a blade. Cameron Rivers stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his eighty-fourth-floor executive suite at Rivers Industries, his hands clenched into fists inside the pockets of his charcoal suit. The technology empire he had built from a two-bedroom apartment on the West Side was worth eight billion dollars, and he had managed it by treating every corporate asset with the precision of a locked vault.
But the file sent by the flight attendant, Lisa Martinez, wasn't a business acquisition log. It was a live, unedited security stream from the private jet's cabin.
"The board is waiting in the primary conference wing, Cameron," his chief operating officer, Marcus, said as he hurried into the room, holding a leather folder. "The New York syndicate just cleared the voting parameters for the commercial real estate buyout. If you delay the signing by another twenty minutes, Derek’s holding company will default on their bridge loans."
"Let them default," Cameron said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, low undertone that made the room instantly drop in temperature.
Marcus froze, his hand hovering over the desk. "Sir? Derek is your brother. His firm’s expansion is entirely backed by your secondary credit lines. If his corporate holding group collapses, his high-society partners will liquidate his residential deeds by Friday morning."
"My brother sat in a cream leather chair and watched his mistress force his pregnant wife to her knees at thirty thousand feet, Marcus," Cameron delivered the indictment, turning around slowly. His eyes were dark, filled with an ancient, boiling rage that recalled the memory of their mother working double shifts to give them a name. "He didn't just break a domestic covenant; he permitted a common hustler to insult the Rivers family legacy on an aircraft registered under my private corporate node."
He walked over to his desk, swiping the encrypted tablet interface to execute a terminal sweep of every bank token he had ever granted to his younger brother.
"Jennifer," Cameron spoke into the intercom, his posture radiating a cold, statuesque finality. "Get me Gabrielle Thompson on a secure line immediately."

"Simone’s sister?" the secretary's voice crackled back. "The lead family attorney for the state attorney's compliance division?"
"Tell her the security logs from the Miami flight have been processed, verified, and counter-signed," Cameron replied, his knuckles turning white as he grabbed his car keys. "And tell her to prepare an immediate, non-negotiable emergency asset freeze against Derek’s private estate. We are going to restructure his lifestyle before the sun rises."
