Plot twist
PART 1: THE MARBLE ARENA / Chapter 2 / 3

PART 2: THE SECURE DECRYPTION

The silence in the foyer was heavier than the winter cold outside.

Grant stood by the door, his travel duffel bag slipping from his hand.

He had arrived two days early from Boston.

"Grant..." Sloane stammered, taking a frantic step backward.

"It’s a deepfake."

"The maid... she engineered this to blackmail us."

Grant didn't look at his fiancée.

He looked at three-year-old Lily, who was now holding her mother’s hand.

Then he looked at the old smartphone in Maya's palm.

"Maya," Grant said, his voice dangerously quiet.

"Where did that audio file come from?"

Maya stepped in front of her daughter, her body acting as a shield.

"My father was a network technician for Whitaker Systems before he passed away, Mr. Whitaker," Maya said.

"He taught me that backup servers don't delete data; they just archive it."

"When I was cleaning the master bedroom office yesterday, I found a discarded digital recorder in the trash."

"Sloane thought she had wiped the flash memory."

"She didn't know the device had a dual-channel recording chip."

Sloane turned on Maya, her polished nails curving like claws.

"You miserable little thief!" she screamed.

"You went through my garbage?!"

"It wasn't garbage, Sloane," Grant interrupted, his voice dropping to an icy register.

"That recorder was a prototype for our new military-grade communication system."

"It automatically mirrors every audio capture to the secure cloud network I monitor."

"I came back because the system flagged an unauthorized data leak originating from this house."

He walked toward Sloane, his heavy boots echoing on the marble.

He reached down and grabbed her hand.

Not gently.

He twisted the five-carat diamond engagement ring off her finger with one sharp pull.

"Grant! You can't believe a servant over me!" Sloane cried, her composure completely shattering.

"We have a contract! The wedding invitations are already out!"

"The contract is null and void under the fraud clause," Grant said, tossing the ring onto the floor.

It skittered across the marble, stopping right at Lily's bare feet.

Sloane’s friends began backing away toward the door, trying to separate themselves from the disaster.

But before anyone could leave, the iron gates outside groaned open.

Two black unmarked sedans tore down the circular driveway.

"Jonah," Grant called out to the estate manager, who was standing near the kitchen entrance.

"Call the police."

"Already did, Mr. Whitaker," Jonah replied, holding his phone.

"But those cars outside aren't the police."

"They belong to Varga."

Sloane’s face twisted into a desperate, manic grin as she looked out the window.

"You're too late, Grant," she hissed, wiping a stray tear from her cheek.

"Varga’s people already have the secondary encryption protocols."

May you like

"They don't need the wedding anymore."

"They just came to make sure no one talks."
