Chapter 10 - The Unwritten Map

The baby was named Leo.

They spent the autumn months watching the leaves turn from gold to brown, the season mirroring the changing of their lives.

Lorenzo had finally found a rhythm.

He spent his mornings with Leo on the porch, looking out at the Atlantic.

"See that?" he would say, pointing to the horizon. "That’s where you go when you're older. Anywhere you want."

Vivien stood in the doorway, her drawing board in hand, sketching the scene.

She was happier than he had ever seen her—a woman who had reclaimed her art and her freedom.

"Are you ever going to tell him?" Vivien asked one evening, watching them.

"Tell him what?"

"Who we were."

Lorenzo looked at his son, then at the vast, peaceful sea.

"When he is old enough to understand the weight of the world," Lorenzo said, "I will tell him that the best map is the one you draw for yourself."

They didn't need to be Morettis.

They were just a family.

And as the tide came in, washing the shore clean of the night’s debris, Lorenzo realized the foundation he had built wasn't stone.

It was bone, blood, and the promise of a quiet life.
