Chapter 8 - The Storm's Edge

Summer brought the tourists and the warmth, but with it came the letter.
It wasn't a threat.
It was a birth announcement—from New York.
One of his former captains had fathered a child and named him after Lorenzo.
It was a strange, haunting reminder that he had left a void behind.
Lorenzo sat on the porch, reading the note.
"They haven't forgotten," he said.
"They haven't," Vivien agreed, coming up behind him. "But they are living in a different world."
"I think I need to send a gift," Lorenzo said.
"A gift?"
"A message," he corrected. "A bottle of wine for the child, and a note: 'The name is all yours, use it for something kind.'"
Vivien nodded, a smile touching her lips.
"That is a good legacy, Lorenzo."
He realized then that he couldn't undo the past, but he could change the resonance of his name.
The ghosts were being replaced by living things.

He wasn't running anymore.
He was just living a life that didn't depend on anyone else's fear.
