Plot twist

Part 4: A New Era

Part 4: A New Era

By midnight, the grand ballroom was completely empty.

The caterers had left. The fake friends had fled. The police cars had driven away with Daniel, Marcus, and my uncle Martin in the back seats. The silence that filled the massive estate was no longer suffocating—it was peaceful.

I sat on the edge of the stone fountain in the courtyard, looking up at the moonlit sky. For the first time in years, the heavy burden of carrying everyone else's greed was gone.

A soft footstep sounded behind me.

I didn't need to turn around to know who it was. The scent of lavender and clean linen always followed her.

"I brought you some warm tea, Mr. Mendoza," Clara said quietly. She was still in her maid uniform, holding a silver tray with a delicate porcelain cup. "I thought... you might need something calm after tonight."

I turned and looked at her. Her beautiful, honest face didn't have a single trace of the greed or malice that had ruined everyone else in my life.

"Thank you, Clara," I said, taking the cup from her. "But you can drop the 'Mr. Mendoza.' Just Leo is fine."

Clara blushed slightly, lowering her eyes. "I shouldn't, sir. I'm just the maid."

"Not anymore," I said, placing the tea down on the stone edge and standing up to face her. "Tonight, when everyone else looked at a broken man and decided to stomp on him, you were the only one who treated me with dignity."

I took her hands. They were warm, slightly rough from hard work, but completely real.

"Tomorrow, my lawyers are reorganizing the entire corporate structure of the Mendoza Group," I told her, watching her eyes widen in surprise. "I need someone I can actually trust to manage our new charitable foundation. Someone who knows the value of kindness."

"Leo..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "I don't know anything about running a foundation. I'm just a girl from the countryside."

"You have the one thing money can't buy, Clara," I smiled gently, leaning closer. "Integrity."

She looked up at me, her big, hopeful eyes shining under the moonlight. The fear she usually carried around Vanessa was completely gone, replaced by a soft, beautiful warmth.

"If you believe I can do it... then I will try," she said softly.

I smiled, pulling her a little closer into the cool night air. The car crash had almost taken my life, and the fake paralysis had taken away my past.

But as I looked at Clara, I realized it had given me a completely clean slate.

The empire was still mine, the traitors were behind bars, and for the very first time in my thirty-two years of life, I finally had someone by my side who loved me for exactly who I was.
