PART 3: THE FORENSIC REVENGE

PART 3: THE FORENSIC REVENGE

Three days later, the rain over Dallas was relentless, slamming against the glass towers of the legal district. Sofia sat in a plush leather armchair inside Alexander’s private office suite, a soft cashmere blanket draped over her shoulders. The swelling on her cheek had gone down, but the purple marks on her arms remained—a stark, brutal reminder of her wedding night.

Elena sat on the armrest beside her, holding a cup of hot tea, while Alexander stood by the window, watching the traffic below.

Hector Vance entered, carrying a fresh stack of forensic financial reports. "The Robles family is completely paralyzed, Mr. Mendez. Carmen tried to liquidate her private jewelry collection at a dealer in Highland Park yesterday morning to flee to Miami. We had a receiver waiting at the shop. The assets were seized under the emergency protective injunction."

Sofia looked down at her hands, her voice quiet. "And Javier?"

"Javier spent the last forty-eight hours at his office trying to shred their internal accounting ledgers," Hector replied, a grim smile touching his lips. "He didn't realize our tech team had already mirrored their servers the moment the line of credit was pulled. We found three years of systematic tax evasion, falsified title deeds, and hidden offshore accounts used to cover his mother’s gambling debts in Macau."

Elena closed her eyes, a shuddering breath escaping her lips. "They didn't just want Sofia's condo for security. They needed it to collateralize their bankruptcy."

"Exactly," Alexander said, turning around from the window. He walked over to Sofia, dropping to his knees beside her chair, exactly the way he had done on the floor of the apartment. He took her uninjured hand in his. "They chose you because they thought you were isolated, baby girl. They thought my distance meant my protection was gone."

"I was so stupid," Sofia whispered, a tear slipping down her cheek. "I thought he loved me for who I was."

"He loved your inventory, Sofia," Alexander said gently. "But the game is over now. Tomorrow morning is the formal arraignment. The federal prosecutor has upgraded the charges from simple domestic assault to corporate extortion, conspiracy, and grand larceny."

He looked up at Elena, a silent, unspoken understanding passing between the divorced couple for the first time in ten years. The storm had reunited them, and the target was clear.
