Part 2: The Audit Arrival
The front doors of the white-columned estate didn't just open; they were thrown back against the wall with a resounding crash.
Miles stood on the threshold, wearing a dark trench coat covered in wet winter rain, his face fixed in a mask of absolute authority.
He wasn't driving a cheap taxi.
He was flanked by two senior field directors from the federal compliance office, both carrying secure electronic briefcases.
"Miles?" Vivian stammered, her hands shaking as she tried to place the empty crystal pitcher onto the counter. "This is a private family lunch. You have no right to burst in here."
"The family lunch is over, Vivian," Miles said, his boots clicking sharply against the polished marble floor as he walked straight toward my small table.
He took off his dry coat, wrapping it gently around my shivering shoulders, before looking up at Ethan.
Ethan finally stood up, his face losing all its color under the chandelier lights. "Miles... what is this? Why are you checking the estate accounts?"
"I'm not checking your accounts, Ethan," Miles said, pulling a leather-bound portfolio from his bag.
"I'm executing a total corporate foreclosure on Whitmore Logistics."
Vanessa's smirk vanished instantly, her manicured fingers clutching her napkin so tightly her knuckles turned white.
"You can't foreclose on us," she whispered, her voice cracking. "The Delaware shell company handles the routing data. The files are anonymous."
May you like
"They were anonymous until seven months ago," Miles replied, looking at her with an icy stare.
"Until the exact day you and Ethan used the corporate credit line to buy an anniversary suite while Harper was in the high-dependency unit."
