Part 3: The Frozen Asset

The dining room became so quiet you could hear the water dripping from my dress onto the floor.

"Miles, baby, please," Ethan begged, taking a slow step toward his brother, his hands raised in a desperate plea. "We had a bad quarter. The company needed the offshore capital to survive the audit."

"You didn't use the offshore capital to save the company, Ethan," I said, my voice suddenly sounding strong, clear, and entirely free of fear as I stood up from the folding chair.

I pulled the waterproof tablet from Miles's briefcase, sliding it across the main dining table right into the center of their roasted chicken platter.

"You used the kids' educational trust fund to finance Vanessa’s boutique expansion in Boston," I said, looking directly into my husband's wide, terrified eyes.

The screen of the tablet lit up, displaying forty pages of forensic transaction summaries signed by the bank’s primary compliance unit.

Every single wire transfer was stamped with Ethan's private biometric authorization code.

Vivian sank back into her chair, her pearls clinking loudly as her flawless posture completely collapsed.

"The house doesn't belong to you anymore, Vivian," Miles announced, turning to his mother. "The deed was put up as collateral for the secondary construction loan that went into default at noon today."

"You're destroying your own blood line, Miles!" Richard shouted from the head of the table, his face turning an ugly shade of purple.

"My blood line is right here," Miles said, placing a protective hand on my shoulder.

"And she's currently carrying the only legitimate heir to the Vanguard estate."
