Chapter 5 - THE BOARDROOM SIEGE

The executive boardroom on the ninetieth floor of the Aldridge Tower was a grand temple of corporate power, the air smelling of expensive leather and corporate greed.
At exactly 10:00 AM on Monday morning, the room was bathed in the crisp, golden light of the Chicago skyline, but the atmosphere inside was thick with the scent of an impending corporate execution.
Thirty of the city’s most prominent investment bankers, board directors, and high-society attorneys sat in high-backed chairs around the massive mahogany table.
At the head of the table sat Damian, Victoria's son, his sharp navy suit immaculate, his face carrying a smug, victorious grin.
He prepared to slide the gold-plated pen across the final signature line of the merger agreement, which would permanently integrate the Aldridge trust into his bankrupt holding company.
"The merger is officially canceled, Damian," a cold, clear voice cut through the boardroom like a razor-sharp wire.
The heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom were violently thrown open, and Preston walked through the threshold, his head held high, his posture rigid and completely unbreakable.
He wore a sharp, tailored white power suit, his dark hair swept back, his three children standing proudly beside him.
Beside them walked Marcus and a team of federal auditors, carrying the secure, metal-encased digital drive containing the complete proof of the fraud.
"Preston?" Damian gasped, the gold pen slipping from his shaking fingers and clattering loudly against the polished mahogany table.
"This... this is impossible. You are supposed to be under psychiatric detention."
"Your mother's private security detail was neutralized by the federal marshals three nights ago, Damian," Preston said, his voice echoing clearly through the silent boardroom.
"And your private accounts in Panama have been permanently frozen by the Department of Justice."
Marcus stepped onto the platform, plugging the secure drive into the table's main media console.
The massive, sixty-foot projector screens behind the chairman instantly illuminated, displaying a high-definition document scan that made the entire room of directors gasp in horror.
The screens displayed the federal bank records showing Victoria and Damian siphoning forty million dollars from the employee retirement fund.
Beside the statement lay the fraudulent medical records, with Victoria’s forged signature of Arthur's name highlighted in bright red forensic indicators.
"The evidence has been fully authenticated by the State Supreme Court's forensic division," Marcus announced over the microphone.
"Victoria Aldridge, Damian Aldridge, and their legal accomplices are currently being held in a federal detention center without bail."

The heavy metallic click of the restraints closing around Damian's wrists as the marshals led him away was the most satisfying sound the board had ever heard.
The golden princes of the fallen dynasty were reduced to cowering felons, their family's empire of lies permanently dismantled in front of the very society they had tried to rule.
