They had genuinely believed that because I stayed silent during their family dinners, I was still the child they could bully into submission.
They had forgotten that the three hundred thousand dollars in my portfolio wasn't the only capital I managed.
For five years, I had quietly served as the primary trustee for the estate my grandfather had left behind.
An estate that funded my mother’s luxury expenses, my father’s corporate shares, and the very wedding reception we were standing in.
"You... you can't dissolve the trust," Diane whispered, her voice trembling as she took a panicked step toward Vanessa.
"The charter requires a majority vote from the senior heirs."
"The charter requires a majority vote of the primary shareholders, Diane," Vanessa countered with a cold, professional smile.
"And your daughter bought out your husband's remaining proxy votes two weeks ago when his logistics line went into default."
Ethan looked at his father, his eyes wide with a sudden, sharp panic. "Dad? What is she talking about?"
My father didn't answer. He simply looked down at the marble tile, his hands shaking inside his tuxedo pockets.
"You wanted my stock portfolio to fund your six-week luxury honeymoon, Ethan," I said, my voice cutting through the damp night air as I slowly pulled myself up out of the pool.
