Chapter 2 - THE IMMACULATE SHATTER

The massive mahogany double doors of the Imperial Grand Hotel’s grand ballroom did not slowly swing open; they parted with a sudden, thunderous finality.

I stood tall, my head held high, my posture rigid, commanding, and completely unbreakable.

I wore an elegant, minimalist floor-length evening gown, my brown hair styled into perfect, polished waves, my hand locked tightly with Noah’s tiny fingers.

To my right, Arthur Vale walked in step with me, his silver hair catching the brilliant glow of the crystal chandeliers, his very presence instantly silencing the nearest tables.

Derek was still standing on the raised stage near the towering champagne fountain, his custom-tailored tuxedo looking sharp, his hand clutching the microphone as he prepared to finish his laugh.

But the laughter in the room did not continue; it died instantly, collapsing into a sudden, suffocating vacuum as two hundred pairs of eyes shifted from the groom to the entrance.

Vanessa, standing beside him in her designer white lace wedding gown, froze mid-sip, her champagne glass trembling so violently that the pale liquid spilled over the rim.

"Evelyn?" Derek’s voice boomed through the high-fidelity speakers, but the arrogant, mocking tone had completely vanished, replaced by a sudden, jagged wire of panic.

He lowered the microphone slightly, his gray eyes narrowing as he tried to process how his discarded, supposedly broken ex-wife had bypassed the hotel’s exclusive security perimeter.

"What the hell are you doing here?" he demanded, his jaw clenching so hard that the muscles in his cheek twitched beneath the amber lights.

"Who authorized your entry into this ballroom?"

"I don't need authorization to enter a property owned by my family's network, Derek," I said, my voice carrying a cold, crystalline strength that resonated through the room without a microphone.

I walked down the ivory aisle runner, the fabric crisp beneath my heels, my eyes locked directly onto the man who had spent eighteen months calling my son a mistake.

The two plainclothes detectives who had been waiting in the service hallway stepped through the doors behind us, their dark suits and official badges catching the light.

Vanessa let out a sharp, horrified gasp, her body instantly stiffening as she recognized the law enforcement insignia on their lapels.

"Derek, tell them to leave!" Vanessa shrieked, her high-society composure entirely evaporating into a mask of raw, animalistic panic.

"This is our wedding reception!"

"The media partners are waiting in the lobby, and if they see the police, the Stanton integration project will be completely ruined!"

"The integration project was dead the moment your brother registered Northstar Strategic Consulting, Vanessa," Arthur Vale announced, his voice carrying the absolute, crushing weight of a billionaire chairman.

He stepped directly to the edge of the stage, looking up at Derek with an expression of cold, unyielding disgust that made the groom take a clumsy step backward.

"Mr. Vale..." Derek stammered, his face turning an instant, pasty shade of gray as his hands began to shake against his tuxedo trousers.

"Sir, I can explain the numbers... it was just a temporary reallocation of the procurement funds to manage the regional overhead."

May you like

"You didn't reallocate funds, Derek; you siphoned four hundred and eighty-six thousand dollars of corporate capital to pay for this half-million-dollar theater," Arthur said coldly.

"And you did it using a forged digital signature stamp that belonged to my daughter."
