Part 2: The Syndicate Breach

My blood ran completely cold in the sterile trauma bay.

Aurelio Salcedo.

My girlfriend’s father, the man who controlled the southern shipping docks I had spent five years trying to acquire.

I turned slowly to face Yara, my eyes narrowing into two slits of pure, lethal ice.

She took a panicked step backward, her perfectly manicured hand flying up to cover her mouth.

"Cormack, I swear I didn't know anything about this," she stammered, her voice cracking against the tiled walls.

"Your father didn't just target my former bartender, Yara," I said, my voice dropping into a flat, clinical whisper.

"He targeted the only legitimate heir to the Hale syndicate."

Royce stepped into the bay, his face fixed in a grim mask as he held his vibrating phone out toward me.

"Boss, the terminal downtown just suffered a total network bypass," Royce reported quietly.

"Our private docks in the northern quarter have been locked down by a secondary compliance injunction."

Aurelio had used my presence at the hospital to execute a complete corporate ambush against my perimeter defenses.

He had poisoned the woman I loved to draw me away from the master registry keys in my downtown study.

"Get the car ready, Royce," I ordered, my knuckles turning white against the gurney rail.

"And call Marcus Bell."
