Chapter 4 - THE CORPORATE RETALIATION

The bright, sterile lights of the Hayes Executive Suite on the ninetieth floor of the Manhattan Tower cast a sharp, cold glare across the glass table.

It was 10:00 AM on Monday morning, and the city below us was a blur of gray rain and yellow taxi cabs.

I sat in the comfortable leather chair, my hands wrapped around a warm cup of coffee, watching Alexander review a thick stack of financial documents.

Beside him sat Mark Ellison, our primary corporate attorney, his face a stern, unyielding mask of professional discipline.

"The Whitmore Group has officially filed for emergency bankruptcy protection, Charles," Mark said, placing a legal folder on the desk.

"They tried to secure a short-term development loan from a private lender in Panama to cover their defaulted debts."

"But we have already executed the federal freeze on all of Richard's domestic assets."

"He cannot transfer a single dollar without our biometric clearance."

"And my brother, Logan?" I asked, my voice carrying a quiet, unyielding focus that I had never been allowed to display in my father's house.

"Logan has been desperately trying to delete the digital transaction logs from the family's server," Mark replied with a cold, sharp smile.

"But he doesn't know that Alexander's forensic team had already duplicated the entire database weeks before the Thanksgiving dinner."

"We have the exact email exchanges proving he and Victoria planned to use your forged signature to absorb the remaining Bennett shipping patents."

"They wanted to use your inheritance as collateral for their Panamanian real estate debts, Emma."

"They were going to leave you with millions of dollars in personal liability while they fled the country."

A cold, liquid fury washed over my veins, my knuckles turning a stark, bloodless white as I stared at the scrolling rows of bank logs on the monitor.

They hadn't just used me as a servant; they had systematically tried to destroy my future to protect their luxury lifestyles.

"They thought because I was quiet, I was weak," I whispered, my eyes narrowing into two sharp, dangerous slits.

"They thought my silence was permission to loot my life."

"But they are about to find out what happens when the lamb finally stops running."

Alexander stood up from his desk, walking over to stand behind my chair, his large hands resting gently on my shoulders.

"The annual shareholders' meeting for the Whitmore Group is scheduled for ten o'clock tomorrow morning, Emma," Alexander said softly, his voice carrying a lethal warmth.

"Your father and Logan believe they are going to present a restructured merger plan to their remaining investors to save the firm."

"They have invited the media, believing they can spin the narrative of a temporary family transition."

"We are going to let them host their beautiful meeting."

"And then, we are going to walk straight into that boardroom and tear their empire down in front of the entire world."
