Chapter 6 - THE GLASS FORTRESS SHATTERS

The seventy-two hours of arrogant confidence the Whitmore family had displayed dissolved into a pathetic, high-pitched wail of pure terror.
As the federal marshals closed in on the platform, the heavy metallic click of the restraints closing around Richard’s wrists was the most satisfying sound I had ever heard.
"Emma, please!" Richard sobbed, his face wet with frantic, streaming tears as he looked at his wife, who was already handcuffed near the door.
"I did it to protect our family's name! I didn't want us to lose everything!"
"You didn't protect our name, Father," I said, looking down at him with dead, unyielding eyes.
"You managed your greed, and when you couldn't control the patents anymore, you tried to destroy my life."
Logan tried to lunge toward the private service exit behind the grand fireplace, his face contorted into a monstrous, angry snarl of panic.
But two heavily built marshals tackled him to the floor, pinning his frame against the white silk tablecloth and snapping the steel handcuffs around his wrists.
The golden prince of the corporate empire was reduced to a pale, shivering felon, his family's empire of lies permanently dismantled.
The district attorney moved with a swift, mathematical precision that left no room for high-society influence or political bribes.
By Thursday afternoon, the state supreme court had officially executed an emergency suspension of all Whitmore Group operations.
Their personal assets were frozen, and their luxury estate was liquidated to pay the massive restitution fines to our employees' retirement fund.
Their family name was permanently erased from the city's registries, and our logistics shipping lines were restored under the original Bennett name.
I stood in the quiet of our living room, watching the warm afternoon sun paint the hardwood floors in shades of gold and amber.
The cold hallway and the terrifying voice of my father's anger had burned away the final remnants of our naive submission, transforming us into the sovereign masters of our own destiny.
The old script of our family's silence was permanently destroyed.
