Plot twist

Chapter 2 - THE FIVE BLACK SUVS

The first SUV door opened slowly.

A man in a perfectly tailored black suit stepped onto the driveway.

He wasn't carrying a weapon.

He didn't need to.

He simply stood beside the vehicle and looked toward the mansion as if he already knew exactly what was waiting inside.

Then another door opened.

Then another.

Within seconds, ten people had emerged from the five black SUVs.

Zachary stared through the ballroom windows.

“What is this?”

Nobody answered him.

Donald Harrington finally stepped forward.

“Security,” he said.

Zachary looked at him.

“Whose security?”

Donald didn't answer.

Because he already knew.

The front doors opened.

Jonathan Harrington—my oldest brother—walked into the ballroom.

He wore a dark charcoal suit, no tie, and the expression of a man who had spent his entire life learning how to remain calm when everyone else was losing control.

Behind him came Gabriel, Xavier, Dominic, and Lucas.

Five brothers.

Five completely different personalities.

But tonight, they moved like one unit.

Jonathan's eyes found me immediately.

He crossed the room without looking at anyone else.

“Genevieve.”

I tried to smile.

“I’m okay.”

His eyes moved to my wrists.

The bruises were already darkening.

His jaw tightened.

“You're not okay.”

“I will be.”

He gently took my hands.

The ballroom became so quiet that I could hear the soft hum of the heating system.

Gabriel stepped beside us.

His eyes traveled from my wrists to the leather crop still lying on the floor.

Then he looked at Zachary.

“That's what you used?”

Zachary straightened.

“You don't understand what happened.”

Gabriel smiled.

It wasn't a friendly smile.

“I understand perfectly.”

Xavier walked toward the rope hanging from the beam.

He examined the cut end.

Then he turned toward me.

“Did anyone record this?”

I nodded.

“Probably.”

Lucas was already holding his phone.

“Already found three videos.”

Zachary's face changed.

“What?”

Lucas looked at him.

“People record everything now.”

He tapped his screen.

“Especially when someone believes they're untouchable.”

Beatrice stepped forward.

“This is private property.”

Jonathan looked at her.

“So is my sister's body.”

Beatrice froze.

Nobody spoke.

Jonathan turned back to me.

“Do you want to leave?”

I looked around the ballroom.

The people who had watched me suffer were suddenly fascinated by their shoes.

The same guests who had laughed with Zachary earlier were now trying to disappear into the walls.

I looked at Bianca.

She was standing beside Zachary.

Her silver dress was still stained red.

A tiny accident.

The excuse for everything.

I looked at the woman who had spent eight months sleeping with my husband.

She didn't look victorious anymore.

She looked frightened.

“I want to go home.”

Jonathan nodded.

“Then we're leaving.”

Zachary stepped forward.

“You're not taking my wife anywhere.”

Jonathan stopped.

“My sister decides where she goes.”

“She is my wife.”

Xavier laughed quietly.

“Interesting.”

Zachary glared at him.

“What?”

Xavier adjusted his cuff.

“Because your behavior tonight creates some interesting legal questions about that statement.”

Donald stepped forward.

“This is a family matter.”

“No,” Xavier said.

His voice remained calm.

“It stopped being a family matter when you tied an adult woman to a beam and struck her thirty times.”

Zachary's face reddened.

“She embarrassed Bianca.”

I looked at him.

There it was.

Not remorse.

Not shame.

Not even fear.

Just justification.

Jonathan noticed it too.

He looked at Dominic.

“Start with the company.”

Dominic nodded.

“Already started.”

Donald stiffened.

“What does that mean?”

Dominic opened a folder on his tablet.

“It means I've been reviewing publicly available corporate records for the Harrington companies.”

Donald stared.

“You had no right.”

Dominic looked almost amused.

“Public records don't require permission.”

He turned the tablet around.

“There are several inconsistencies.”

Donald stepped closer.

“What inconsistencies?”

“Payments.”

Dominic swiped.

“Consulting fees.”

Another swipe.

“Companies that appear to have no employees but receive millions from Harrington Construction subsidiaries.”

Donald went pale.

Beatrice whispered, “Donald.”

He raised his hand.

“Enough.”

Dominic didn't stop.

“There are also transfers to an account connected to Bianca Laurent.”

Bianca's champagne glass slipped from her fingers.

It shattered against the marble floor.

Zachary turned toward her.

“What?”

Bianca shook her head.

“I don't know what he's talking about.”

Lucas finally spoke.

“You do.”

Everyone looked at him.

He held up his phone.

“Because the account isn't technically in your name.”

Bianca stared at him.

Lucas continued.

“But the beneficiary information is.”

Zachary looked at Bianca.

“What did you do?”

She backed away.

“I didn't do anything.”

Donald suddenly grabbed his chest.

Beatrice rushed toward him.

“Donald?”

He waved her away.

“I’m fine.”

But he wasn't.

And for the first time, the Harrington family seemed to understand that this wasn't a confrontation they could end by shouting louder.

I turned toward Jonathan.

“Take me home.”

He placed his coat over my shoulders.

“Come on.”

As we walked toward the doors, Zachary called after me.

“Genevieve!”

I stopped.

I didn't turn around.

“You're really going to destroy your husband's family because of one mistake?”

I slowly looked over my shoulder.

“One mistake?”

My voice was quiet.

“You had eight months with another woman.”

Zachary said nothing.

“You lied to me.”

Nothing.

“You humiliated me.”

Silence.

“And tonight, you tied me up and hit me thirty times because you thought nobody would stop you.”

I looked directly into his eyes.

“That wasn't a mistake.”

Then I walked out.

The moment I stepped onto the driveway, cold night air touched my face.

Five SUVs waited.

Jonathan opened the middle vehicle for me.

Before I climbed inside, Lucas approached.

“There is one thing you need to know.”

“What?”

He lowered his voice.

“We didn't come here only because of what happened tonight.”

I frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Lucas looked toward the mansion.

“Three weeks ago, when you told Jonathan about the affair, he asked us to look into Zachary.”

My heart stopped.

“You knew?”

“We knew enough to worry.”

Dominic joined us.

“Zachary has been moving money.”

“How much?”

“That's what we're still determining.”

Gabriel looked toward the mansion.

“But it isn't just him.”

I stared at my brothers.

“Who else?”

Jonathan answered.

“Your husband's entire family may be involved.”

I felt cold despite the coat around my shoulders.

“What kind of involvement?”

Jonathan's eyes hardened.

“The kind that can destroy a billion-dollar empire.”

I climbed into the SUV.

As the door closed, I looked back at the mansion.

The ballroom was still glowing behind the windows.

The chandelier was still shining.

The champagne was still flowing.

But something had changed.

The Harrington family had spent years believing money could protect them from consequences.

Tonight, they were about to discover something different.

Money could buy silence.

It could buy lawyers.

It could buy loyalty.

May you like

But it couldn't erase evidence.

And my brothers had just started looking.
