Chapter 3 - THE DOCTOR'S SECRET LEDGER

The bright, sterile fluorescent lights of the Zapopan police precinct felt cold against my skin as I sat in the soundproof interrogation room.

I was wrapped in a heavy wool blanket, my fingers quietly tracing the soft fabric as I watched Marcus plug a secure, encrypted digital hard drive into his laptop.

Across the metal table sat Mark Ellison, my father’s trusted corporate attorney, his face a grave mask of professional anger as he reviewed the decrypted files.

"This wasn't just a random act of domestic malice, Mariana," Mark said softly, his voice carrying a deep, clinical precision.

"This was a highly organized, multi-million-dollar financial execution designed to seize your father's logistics patents."

"When your father established the Bennett-Torres trust fund last year, he put a specific, sovereign custody clause in the document."

"The twelve-million-dollar maritime trust fund was scheduled to transfer exclusively to your twin sons on their first-month milestone next week."

"But there was a hidden amendment Beatriz's lawyers drafted in secret."

"If the twins passed away due to an unexplainable medical condition, and you were declared mentally or residentially unstable due to 'severe postpartum depression,' the sole guardianship of the trust would automatically transfer to Alejandro."

"And Alejandro?" I asked, my voice flat, dead, and entirely devoid of any human empathy.

"Your husband's pharmaceutical sales agency is currently facing thirty million dollars in defaulted debt from a failed real estate venture in Panama," Marcus explained, pointing to the glowing screen.

"His mother, Beatriz, used his medical credentials to access the high-grade neuromuscular blockers from his company's private repository."

"They were systematically drugging the twins' bottles with low-dose chemical sedatives to simulate chronic infant respiratory failure."

"They needed you to look like an exhausted, negligent mother who couldn't handle the pressure, preparing the court files to declare you mentally incompetent."

"They wanted to lock you away in a private sanitarium, leaving Alejandro with exclusive control of your father's empire."

My hands clenched into tight fists beneath the blanket, the physical scars of my three months of sleep deprivation burning with a sudden, protective fury.

"They thought because I was quiet, I was weak," I whispered, my eyes locking onto the blue plastic folder containing my father's original, uncorrupted patents.

"They thought my grief would keep me silent."

"But they forgot that the ledger of an honest life can never be permanently erased by the greed of wolves."

"We are going to let them think they still have a chance, Mark."

"We are going to let Alejandro's lawyers file the emergency estate transition papers for the board meeting tomorrow morning."

"And when they stand in that boardroom, we are going to drop the sky on their heads."
