Chapter 5 - THE GLASS CEILING SHATTERS

The grand executive boardroom on the ninetieth floor of the Bennett Tower was a breathtaking temple of corporate power, the air smelling of polished mahogany and expensive orchids.
At exactly 10:00 AM on Friday morning, the room was bathed in the crisp, golden light of the skyline, but the atmosphere inside was thick with the scent of an impending corporate execution.
Thirty of the city’s most prominent investment bankers, board directors, and high-society attorneys sat in high-backed chairs around the massive mahogany table.
At the head of the table sat Alejandro, his navy-blue suit wrinkled, his face a pale, sweating mask of absolute panic as he looked at the empty chairs reserved for his mother.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Alejandro's corporate attorney announced, his voice carrying a smooth, rehearsed elegance.
"Due to the tragic, sudden passing of the Bennett-Torres heirs, we are presenting the emergency transition deeds to consolidate the shipping patents under the Rivas Holding Group."
He raised a gold-plated fountain pen, preparing to slide the nib across the final signature line of the multi-million-dollar agreement.
"The signature on those deeds constitutes federal wire fraud, Alejandro," a cold, clear voice cut through the boardroom like a razor-sharp wire.
The heavy mahogany double doors of the boardroom were violently thrown open, the wood panels vibrating against the stone frame.
I walked through the threshold, my head held high, my posture rigid, commanding, and completely unbreakable.
Beside me walked Marcus and a team of six armed federal marshals, their tactical vests displaying the gold shields of the Financial Crimes Division.
"Mariana?" Alejandro gasped, the gold pen slipping from his shaking fingers and clattering loudly against the polished mahogany table.
His face turned an instant, pasty white under the warm light of the chandeliers, his knees buckling slightly as the reality of my return struck his mind.
"What... what is this? This is a private corporate transition!"
"The transition is officially void under the federal fraud statutes, Alejandro," I said, my voice echoing clearly through the silent room.
Marcus stepped onto the platform, plugging the secure digital drive from our safe house into the table's main media console.
The massive, sixty-foot projector screens behind the chairman instantly illuminated, displaying the raw, unedited photographs of Beatriz drugging my sons' bottles.
The thirty directors watched in breathless, paralyzed horror as the recording of my mother-in-law's confession and the toxicological reports filled the screens.
"My God," the board chairman whispered, standing up from his table in deep, professional disgust.
"This is monstrous."

The lead marshal stepped forward, the heavy metallic click of the restraints closing around Alejandro's wrists ending his family's corporate conspiracy.
The golden prince of the Rivas family was led away in chains, his name permanently erased from our company's history, his life of luxury traded for a concrete cell.
