Chapter 2 - The Aftermath of Silence

The drive home was quiet.
The rhythmic swish of the windshield wipers cut through the January snow.
My father didn't ask about the pain in my cheek.
He understood that humiliation was a wound that needed more than soft words.
"They didn't just breach the contract," he said, staring ahead at the dark road.
"They have been siphoning operational funds into private offshore accounts."
"We have them on fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy."
I watched the snow blur past.
I thought of the years I had spent as a school counselor, hiding my identity.
I realized now that the simplicity I had craved had only left me vulnerable.
"I want the company liquidated," I said, my voice steady.
"I want every asset sold to satisfy the debt."
My father nodded slowly.
"It is already done."
"By morning, Blackwood Construction will be a name in a history book."
"And Ethan? He’ll be stripped of his position."
"He knew about the offshore accounts, Lena."
"He signed off on every single transfer."
The revelation hit me like a physical blow.
I had believed in Ethan.
I believed his silence at the party was just cowardice.
But this was calculated greed.
"The truth is often the most painful part of the journey," my father said.
"But it is the only thing that sets you free."
When we reached our estate, the gates opened automatically.
I was safe.
I was wealthy.

I was no longer playing the part of a 'broke nobody.'
I was a Vale.
