Chapter 2 - The Mid-Air Manifest

The quiet murmur of the first-class cabin transformed into a wave of panicked whispers within seconds.
The corporate audit data continued to scroll across the overhead monitors, illuminating the dark cabin with blue light.
Every unauthorized hotel transfer, every fake vendor invoice, and every offshore account assignment lay fully exposed.
Trinity scrambled backward against the window, her designer handbag slipping from her lap onto the floor.
"Adam, what is the meaning of this?" she hissed, her manicured fingers clawing at the leather armrest.
"The federal agents? You told me the shell companies were fully legal and approved by the board directors!"
Adam didn't answer her; his eyes were fixed on the front galley door where the secure tablet was mounted.
He unbuckled his seat belt with a violent snap, ignoring the illuminated fasten-seat-belt sign above his head.
"Dakota, turn that screen off right now!" he shouted, stepping into the aisle as the plane tilted slightly.
"You're disrupting an international flight! This is a violation of federal aviation regulations!"
Dakota didn't step back from the cart; she simply stood her ground, her posture rigid with military-grade discipline.
"The only violation here is the grand larceny you executed against my father’s estate, Adam," she said calmly.
"The Horizon Airways board of directors authorized this digital broadcast ten minutes before we pushed back from Miami."
"They discovered you were using their private corporate accounts to launder the siphoned construction funds."
Two burly male flight attendants stepped out of the secondary galley, their arms crossed, blocking the aisle completely.
Adam stopped, realizing his corporate authority meant absolutely nothing inside this metal tube at thirty thousand feet.
He was trapped in the stratosphere with the ultimate forensic ledger of his own systematic destruction.
"You think a public stunt is going to hold up in a federal court?" Adam growled, his voice dropping a register.
"My legal team will have this entire display thrown out as an administrative breach of privacy before we land."
"Your legal team was detained at the corporate headquarters in Newport Beach two hours ago, Adam," Dakota replied.
She reached into her uniform pocket, pulling out a sealed envelope containing a federal asset seizure decree.
"My attorney, Marcus, finalized the emergency injunction while you were standing in the boarding line."
"Every single luxury line, personal account, and secondary credit card bearing your name has been terminated."
Trinity let out a sharp, choked sob, her eyes wide as she looked at the screens displaying her penthouse lease.
The luxury lifestyle she had traded her integrity for had been dismantled before the plane even left the coast.
"You used me," Trinity whispered, turning her furious gaze toward Adam. "You used my LLC to mask the transfers!"
"She didn't just mask them, Trinity," Dakota said, looking down at the mistress with absolute, clinical pity.
"He set you up as the primary corporate officer of the shell firm, meaning the legal liability belongs to you."

The aircraft began its long, controlled descent toward the diversion runway, the clouds rushing past the windows.
The perfect performance Adam had maintained for nine years had officially crashed into the dark Atlantic below.
