Chapter 3 - The Diversion Protocol

The heavy tires of Flight 912 struck the tarmac of John F. Kennedy International Airport with a deafening roar.
Rain lashed the passenger windows in relentless sheets, the gray New York storm matching the grim reality inside.
The aircraft taxied toward a private, isolated hangar far away from the main commercial terminals.
The moment the engines whined down into silence, the front cabin door was pushed open from the outside.
Four federal marshals dressed in dark tailored coats stepped into the first-class section, their badges gleaming.
Behind them walked Marcus, Dakota’s senior legal counsel, carrying a thick black leather folder of evidence.
"Adam Gibson, you are currently under federal arrest for corporate fraud, grand larceny, and embezzlement," the lead marshal announced.
The handcuffs clicked into place around Adam’s wrists with a sharp sound that shattered his remaining pride.
He didn't shout or struggle; he simply stood paralyzed as his custom leather jacket was pulled from his shoulders.
Trinity was escorted out right behind him, her designer sunglasses forgotten on the seat, her face stained with tears.
She had no empire left to claim, no first-class tickets to Florence, and no billionaire husband to rescue her.
Dakota stood by the exit door, her navy uniform still immaculate, her hair perfectly tied back without a single stray strand.
"The paperwork is fully executed, Dakota," Marcus said, handing her the final corporate dissolution decree.
"The board has officially appointed you as the sole chief executive of the Gibson-Hartwell holdings."
"The thieves have been completely purged from the registry, and the assets are secure."
Dakota looked at her husband one last time as the marshals moved him toward the heavy metal stairs.
"You told Trinity that I trusted you too much, Adam," she whispered, her voice carrying a cold finality.
"I didn't trust you. I was simply waiting for the numbers to match the extent of your arrogance."
Adam looked back at her, his face completely hollowed out, the corporate prince finally reduced to a bankrupt felon.
"Who told you, Dakota?" he asked, his voice cracking against the sound of the rain lashing the metal stairs.
"Who gave you the access keys to the Newport Beach network?"
Dakota offered a small, cold smile that felt as sharp as a diamond cutting through glass.
"Your mother-in-law gave them to me, Adam," she replied smoothly.
"She loved my father long before she ever tolerated your presence at our Sunday lunches."

The guards pushed him out into the freezing storm, his boots soaking instantly as he descended into the dark.
The matrix of lies he had built to humiliate his wife had become the very cell that would hold him for decades.
