Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Fall

At 10:00 AM, the glass-walled boardroom on the forty-fifth floor of the Hale Tower offered a breathtaking view of the Seattle harbor.
Grant Hale stood at the head of the long mahogany table, wearing a fresh tailored navy suit, adjusting his cuffs as the primary board members took their seats. He had spent three hours making calls to local media outlets, ensuring the story of the "incident" at the estate was spun as a tragic accident caused by an uninvited guest.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen," Grant began, his voice smooth, confident, and persuasive. "Before we review the fourth-quarter projections, I want to address the minor disturbance at the estate last night. A former contractor created a scene, but the authorities handled it swiftly. My family is completely safe, and operations remain unaffected."
"Is that so, Grant?"
The double oak doors at the back of the boardroom swung open.
Evelyn walked into the room, flanked by two corporate security officers and Marcus Vance. Right beside her, walking with a steady, measured pace despite her ankle brace, was Nora.
The board members immediately stood up in surprise.
Grant’s face twisted into an angry, confused scowl. "Mother? Nora? What is the meaning of this? This is an executive board session. You can't just barge in here—"
"I don't need permission to enter a building I own, Grant," Evelyn said, her voice echoing clearly off the glass walls.
She walked to the head of the table, placing her hands flat against the polished mahogany. "Members of the board, I am calling an immediate emergency vote under Article 9 of the corporate charter."
Grant’s heart skipped a beat. "Article 9? That’s reserved for executive misconduct!"
"You diverted twelve million dollars from the Hale Development Trust into offshore shell accounts registered to Sloane Mercer," Nora stated, stepping up to the side of the table, her hand resting protectively over her belly.
She opened her briefcase, pulling out stack after stack of certified bank records, wire transfer logs, and the confession statement signed by Sloane Mercer just an hour prior.
"Here are the paper trails, gentlemen," Nora said, sliding the documents toward the senior board members. "Grant didn't just commit corporate embezzlement; he attempted to prevent the legitimate registration of his own child’s trust inheritance."
The board members flipped through the pages, their expressions shifting from shock to pure, unadulterated fury.
"Grant... is this true?" the lead board director demanded, his voice trembling with rage. "You used foundation assets to fund a mistress’s offshore accounts?"
"It’s a forgery!" Grant shouted, pointing a shaking finger at Nora. "She’s angry because we’re getting a divorce! She manufactured these documents with Marcus!"
"Sloane Mercer is currently giving a full deposition to the SEC, Grant," Evelyn said coldly. "And federal marshals are waiting in the lobby."
Evelyn looked around the table, her posture magnificent. "All those in favor of immediately terminating Grant Hale’s position as Chief Executive Officer and revoking his corporate shares... raise your hand."
Every single hand in the boardroom went up instantly.
Grant backed away from the table, his knees knocking against his chair, his world completely collapsing around him in a matter of seconds.
"Mother... please," Grant begged, his voice dropping into a desperate, pathetic whimper. "You can't do this to me! I'm your son!"
May you like
Evelyn looked at him, her eyes filled with a profound, quiet sadness, but her voice remained as unyielding as iron.
"You were my son, Grant," she said softly. "But you chose to destroy the woman who carried your child. And in this family, we do not protect monsters."
