Chapter 2 - THE BALLROOM BACKLASH

The suffocating silence inside the Grand Ballroom in Polanco thickened into a wall of absolute panic as the echoes of Renata Mendoza's recorded insults faded into the vaulted ceilings.

Alejandro Salvatierra slowly set his champagne flute down onto the pristine damask linen tablecloth, the heavy crystal making a sharp click that sounded like the drop of a guillotine.

"What is the meaning of this administrative disaster, Diego?" Alejandro’s father, Senior Managing Director Ernesto Salvatierra, demanded as his deep voice boomed across the frozen tables.

"We did not fly into the capital from Monterrey to integrate our shipping lines with a family that orchestrates domestic medical coercion and physical harassment inside their own house."

Diego’s hand slipped completely off my shoulder as his silver cufflinks caught the harsh glare of the massive projector screen, his handsome face losing its color.

"Ernesto, please, this is a highly distorted digital fabrication designed by my wife’s corporate handlers to destabilize our merger negotiations," Diego blustered, his voice cracking slightly.

"Mariana has been suffering from post-traumatic clinical instability since the traffic accident, and her perception of our family dynamics is entirely compromised."

"The only thing that is compromised in this ballroom is your family's liberty, Diego," I said, my voice carrying a freezing, absolute calm that made the front-row guests lean forward.

"The recording you are listening to is a certified, non-editable digital backup from a military-grade tracking relay taped directly under the armrest of my wheelchair."

Renata took a frantic step backward, her glittering gold-beaded gown catching on the edge of the floral runner as she looked up at the giant display screen.

The monitor did not fade to black; instead, it split into four distinct windows, displaying the certified financial ledger transactions of Mendoza Infrastructure from the past eight months.

"You thought because I was confined to this wheelchair with a shattered pelvis, I would sit quietly while you drained my father’s shipping trust to cover your personal debts in Panama," I added.

"But before I married you, I spent five years working as the lead compliance auditor for the Federal Securities Division."

"And by attempting to lock me away in a private clinic tonight, you have officially executed the automatic default clause in your own corporate charters."
