Chapter 7 - THE SOVEREIGN FUTURE

The sharp, crisp wind off the coast swept through the open terrace of my new oceanfront home, carrying a beautiful sense of long-awaited renewal.
Three months had passed since the final conclusion of the federal trial, and the mental fog and trauma of my past life were completely gone.
I sat on the wide stone deck, my physical therapy successfully completed, my legs resting comfortably as the afternoon sun painted the water in brilliant gold.
My daughter lay sleeping in her bassinet beside my chair, her cheeks bright and healthy, her small fingers reaching toward the warm sunlight.
My brother, Arthur, walked out onto the terrace, carrying two fresh cups of coffee and a warm, respectful smile on his handsome face.
He handed one to me, his steady fingers gently brushing against mine with a reassuring warmth that made my heart feel completely whole and functional.
"The registry is permanently closed, Mariana," Arthur said softly, his deep voice carrying a quiet, proud satisfaction for the victory we had won.
"Diego and his sister have begun their twenty-five-year sentences without the possibility of early parole, and the entire infrastructure is secure."
"The new foundation is operating with absolute transparency, and every single employee fund has been fully restored under your daughter's legacy."
"Thank you, Arthur," I smiled, looking out at the massive shipping vessels moving slowly across the sparkling blue horizon of the ocean under our family's banner.
The cold floor of the ballroom and the single hidden microphone of my husband's betrayal had burned away the final remnants of my naive submission.
