Chapter 3 - THE SECRET INVESTIGATION

The transition from a publicly humiliated wife back into the sovereign chairperson of the Dennis Logistics Network was completed before the first police cruiser arrived.
I did not shed a single tear over my stained maternity gown, nor did I look back at Diego’s mother, Beatriz, who stood frozen like a statue beside the head table.
Instead, I let the young waiter, whose real name was Agent Mateo Vance, guide my wheelchair quietly out of the ballroom toward a secure, armored transport van waiting in the service corridor.
Beside me in the rear compartment sat my older brother, Arthur, an elite maritime litigation attorney whose face remained an unyielding wall of stone under the vehicle's interior lights.
"The forensic accounting team has completed the multi-layered analysis of the Mendoza offshore accounts, Mariana," Arthur said, placing a thick leather binder on my lap.
"They didn't just alter your digital signature to bypass the asset-freezing protocols; they actively paid a local mechanic to compromise the hydraulic lines on your sedan three months ago."
"We have the physical wire transfer data proving the funds came directly from a shell corporation registered under Renata’s name," he added, his jaw tightening with a sharp, protective anger.
"They believed that because I was seven months pregnant, because my body was broken by the impact of that truck, I would be too exhausted to read the books," I whispered.
"They forgot that my father did not raise us to surrender our legacy to predators who hide their cowardice behind designer suits."
"The federal prosecutors have already unsealed the primary racketeering indictments," Arthur confirmed, a cold, satisfied focus settling behind his eyes.
"The trapdoor is locked, Mariana."

"And by the time the morning market opens over the capital, the House of Mendoza will be completely hollowed out from the inside."
