Chapter 2 - The Ground Freeze at Gate C

Down in Terminal C, the high-pitched chime of an urgent corporate notification broke the joyful laughter of the Walker family.
Jack reached into his pocket, his hand casually sliding out his phone, expecting a routine update from his medical department.
Instead, the screen lit up with a series of high-priority red alerts that frozen the blood in his veins.
His personal accounts, his corporate credit lines, and the secondary offshore investment trust had all been hit with an immediate federal freeze order.
The notification didn't come from a local bank; it carried the official digital seal of Vance Global Holdings—a firm he thought had vanished a decade ago.
Beside him, the blonde woman, whose name was Tiffany, placed a manicured hand on his arm. "Jack, honey, what’s wrong? The gate agent is calling first class boarding."
Jack couldn't speak; his fingers trembled as he tapped open the primary attachment.
It was a certified legal notice of asset freeze, paired with an emergency revocation of his corporate credit status.
Every single flight ticket he had booked for the six of them—the first-class seats to St. Thomas, the luxury resort villa, the chartered yacht—had been flagged as fraudulent transactions.
His mother, Carol, stepped forward, her expensive sunglasses resting on her silver hair. "Jack, darling, we need to line up. Ashley wants to get a photo in front of the jet bridge."
"Mom... stop," Jack stammered, his voice dropping into a register that made Carol’s smile vanish instantly.
"The cards... they aren't working."
"What do you mean they aren't working?" Ashley chimed in, lowering her phone. "You said your bonus cleared yesterday!"
Before Jack could answer, two uniformed airline gate supervisors walked straight past the queue of passengers, flanked by two airport security officers.
"Mr. Jack Walker?" the lead supervisor asked, his voice flat, professional, and entirely devoid of warmth.
"Yes?" Jack squeaked, looking around frantically.
"Your reservation has been revoked by the primary corporate account holder, Megan Vance-Walker," the supervisor announced loudly enough for the surrounding passengers to hear.
"Furthermore, the security clearance for these six tickets has been flagged for immediate financial audit. Please step away from the boarding gate immediately."
Tiffany gasped, dropping her designer carry-on bag onto the polished terminal floor.
Carol’s jaw dropped in absolute shock. "Megan? What does Megan have to do with this? She’s a housewife!"
High above them, behind the glass railing of the upper concourse, I stood in my blue dress, watching their perfect world turn to ash.
Jack looked up slowly, his eyes scanning the balcony until they landed on me.

The look on his face wasn't anger; it was pure, unadulterated terror—the realization that the quiet woman he had lied to for ten years held the remote control to his entire life.
