Chapter 2 - THE HALLWAY LOCKDOWN

The high-intensity blue and red strobe lights from the tactical vehicles sliced through the heavy glass panels of the Harrow mansion, turning the pristine marble floor into a chaotic visual landscape.
Evan struggled against the hard grip of the county deputies, his untucked shirt staining with oil and dust as his knees hit the tiles with a sharp, hollow thud.
"You can't do this to me!" he screamed, his voice cracking into a high-pitched register of raw, primitive panic. "I am the managing director of Harrow Maritime Solutions! My father has the regional magistrate on a monthly retainer! You are completely destroying your own careers by putting hands on me!"
"Your family's retributions ended the moment you used chemical coercion to force a fraudulent signature inside this room, Evan," I said, my voice carrying a freezing, absolute focus as I adjusted Claire’s head against my shoulder.
I held her close, her shallow, ragged breathing slowly stabilizing under the reassuring weight of my arms, her small fingers still clutching my leather jacket as if it were the only solid object remaining in her world.
Behind him, Victoria Harrow was pacing like a cornered predator against the base of the grand staircase, her expensive cream silk robe flapping wildly around her ankles.
"She’s an unstable liar, Martin!" she shrieked, her manicured fingers trembling violently as she pointed toward the half-empty syringe resting beneath the table. "Claire has been experiencing acute emotional volatility for six months! We were simply administering a medically authorized supplement to protect her from her own manic episodes!"
"The medical authority you are boasting about was forged through a defunct medical clinic in Panama, Victoria," Detective Vance announced as he stepped through the entrance.
He didn't offer a polite greeting, nor did he allow Richard Harrow’s smooth, high-society smile to control the pace of the room. He simply pulled a certified, federal non-negotiable seizure order from his folder and placed it directly onto the marble counter.

"The smart speaker in the den has already uploaded the complete acoustic record of your private family business to our secure server," the detective added with cold finality.
"And by the time the state prosecutor unseals the primary indictments at nine o'clock, your status will be completely liquidated."
