Chapter 4 - The Public Humiliation

The Grand Ballroom of the Cole Landmark Restaurant was packed to maximum capacity. The venue was supposed to host the annual Elite Hospitality Gala that evening, an event the Cole family used every year to show off their status to high society. Instead, the media banners had been replaced with the sleek, silver logo of Vale Meridian Holdings.

Reporters from every major financial news outlet and high-society magazine were crammed into the room, their cameras flashing continuously.

In the holding room backstage, the Cole family arrived, escorted by my security team. They looked exhausted, their clothes slightly wrinkled—a stark contrast to their usual pristine appearance. Daniel’s eyes were bloodshot, and Vanessa looked like she had been crying for hours.

"Victoria," Margaret said, her voice shaking as she stepped toward me. "Please. Think of our reputation. If this goes public, we are ruined. We will never be able to show our faces in this city again."

"You should have thought about your reputation before your daughter poured coffee on my floor and your son put his hands on my face," I said, not even looking up from my notes.

"It was a domestic dispute!" Daniel hissed, trying to regain some semblance of authority. "People get into arguments, Victoria! You can't destroy a multi-generation empire over a single argument!"

"A domestic dispute?" I finally looked up, my eyes locking onto his. "You didn't just argue with me, Daniel. You tried to break me. You tried to assert dominance over a woman you thought was beneath you. But let's be clear: this isn't about the slap. The slap just made me lose my patience. This is about the forty-two million dollars you stole from my company."

Before he could answer, Evelyn opened the door. "We are ready for you, Ms. Vale."

I walked out onto the stage, the bright stage lights instantly hitting my face. The roar of the crowd and the flashing of cameras were overwhelming, but I felt completely at peace. I stepped up to the podium.

"Good evening, everyone," I spoke clearly into the microphone. "Thank you for coming on such short notice. Today, Vale Meridian Holdings is announcing a major restructuring of its hospitality portfolio. Effective immediately, Cole Hospitality is being dissolved due to systemic financial mismanagement, corporate espionage, and massive fraud."

A collective gasp echoed through the ballroom. The reporters immediately began shouting questions, their hands shooting into the air.

"To provide clarity," I continued, pressing a button on the podium that projected the forensic accounting documents onto the massive screens behind me, "Mr. Daniel Cole and Mr. Arthur Cole have been operating a fraudulent secondary accounting system, embezzling tens of millions of dollars from our investment funds to fund their private lifestyles."

At that moment, Evelyn signaled the security guards to open the side doors of the stage. Daniel, Arthur, Margaret, and Vanessa were marched out onto the stage in full view of the cameras. The flashing lights became blinding.

"Daniel! Is it true?!" a reporter yelled.

"Arthur, did you know about the fraud?!" another shouted.

Daniel looked like a deer caught in headlights. He tried to shield his face from the cameras, but there was nowhere to hide. His mother covered her face with her hands, weeping openly as the elite society peers they had spent their entire lives trying to impress watched them get publicly stripped of their titles, their wealth, and their dignity.

"Furthermore," I said, my voice cutting through the chaos, "the evidence has already been turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney's office. The law handles corporate thieves, but I handle my own destiny."

I turned my head slightly to look at Daniel, who was trembling on the side of the stage. The illusion of his power was completely shattered. He wasn't a king; he was just a thief who had forgotten who owned the castle.
