Chapter 6 - The Battle in the Dark

The blue light of the monitors flickered violently as a sudden surge cut through the building’s primary power grid.
Arthur didn't wait for the lights to return; he pulled a compact weapon from his blazer and fired two shots into the dark hallway.
The bullets sparked against the steel server racks, missing my head by mere inches as I dropped to the concrete floor.
I rolled behind a massive concrete pillar, tracking the sound of his expensive leather shoes scrambling toward the emergency exit steps.
"You can't save her and stop me, Elena!" his voice echoed through the dark basement corridors.
I didn't answer with words; I used my phone to execute a secondary override command I had pre-programmed into the hospital's independent server line hours ago.
The remote detonator in Arthur's hand suddenly began to beep rapidly, its green light turning a dangerous shade of solid red.
"The hospital server is running on a military proxy now, Arthur," I shouted through the darkness.
"Your signal can't breach the medical block, but my counter-signal just locked your data drive completely."

Arthur let out a furious roar, realizing his multi-million-dollar leverage had just been turned into a useless piece of encrypted plastic.
He turned to fire a final, desperate volley into the shadows, but I was already standing right behind him.
