Chapter 7 - THE SOVEREIGN HORIZON

The sharp, crisp wind off the Atlantic Ocean swept through the open terrace of my new oceanfront villa in Tarifa, carrying a sense of long-awaited renewal.
Three months had passed since the final conclusion of the Soler military tribunal.
The name Soler was no longer associated with the defense contracting scandal; it had been restored to the honor roll of the naval academy where I now taught the next generation of commanders.
I stood on the wide stone deck, wearing a simple, comfortable white linen suit, the afternoon sun painting the peaceful blue waters in brilliant shades of gold.
The physical pain of my scars was gone, replaced by a deep, unbreakable strength that made my body feel whole and functional.
Admiral Tomás Rueda walked out onto the terrace, carrying two fresh cups of espresso, a warm, respectful smile on his battle-worn face.
He handed me a cup, his fingers gently brushing against mine with a steady, reassuring warmth that signaled the absolute end of our long war.
"The restructuring is completely finished, Eva," Tomás said, his deep voice carrying a quiet, proud satisfaction.
"The new fleet has been fully certified with genuine, high-grade steel, and the compliance oversight has been permanently secured under your sole executive authority."
"No single contractor can ever sacrifice our sailors’ lives for a dividend again."
"Thank you, Tomás," I smiled, looking out at the massive naval vessels moving slowly across the sparkling blue horizon of the ocean.
They looked so small from this height, so distant, like the memories of the cold ballroom and my sister's cruel laughter.
The people who had tried to make me feel invisible, who had treated me like a permanent stain on their legacy, were gone, lost in the quiet noise of history.
The old script of our family's silence was permanently destroyed.

Our independent fortress was built.
And our real, beautiful life had just officially begun.
