Chapter 5 - Unmasking the False Fortune

Madison turned around, her brow furrowing in instant panic. "Kyle? What are you talking about? What do you mean there's no money?"

Kyle walked into the living room, throwing the manila envelope onto the coffee table.

Stack after stack of credit card notices, lease default warnings, and bank overdraft statements spilled across the wood.

"Her father isn't a senior corporate partner, Mom," Kyle said, looking at me with tears welling in his eyes.

"His firm went into receivership six months ago. Their luxury SUV is leased under my business credit line."

"Madison’s 'designer lifestyle' was funded entirely by three secondary credit cards she secretly opened under my name!"

Evelyn’s face turned an ashen, deathly shade of grey as her daughter gasped, stepping away from the table.

"Kyle! Shut up!" Madison panicked, reaching for the papers. "We were going to pay that back! Once we got the lakehouse deed, we were going to liquidate the property!"

"You married me for a deed you didn't even know existed yet," Kyle whispered, his voice cracking as he looked at the woman he had loved.

"You treated my mother like garbage at her own grandson's baby shower because you thought you were above us."

"You threw her heart in the trash."

"And the whole time, you were using my family to pay for your fake life."

I stood by the window, watching my son's heart break in real time, my chest aching for the boy I had raised.

Frank had seen it coming from the very beginning.

He knew that some people only love the fruit on the tree, never the roots that keep it alive.

"Get out of my mother's house, Madison," Kyle said, stepping between his wife and me, his posture straight, his tone carrying an absolute finality.

"And don't come back until you've signed the legal separation papers."
