Chapter 4 - The Paper Empire Burns

Silas Sterling didn't panic. He stood at the head of the table, smoothing down his silk lapels, his posture rigid with decades of unchecked aristocratic power.
"Captain Thorne," Silas said, forcing a calm, dismissive smile. "You think bringing a few soldiers into my home scares me? My legal team will have these warrants thrown out before the sun rises."
"Your legal team can't answer their phones, Silas," Voss's voice came from the doorway as he tapped his tablet screen.
"At 1:45 AM, the Treasury Department's financial crimes division executed an emergency asset freeze across all twenty-four primary accounts of Sterling Commercial Operations."
Silas froze, his eyes narrowing. "What?"
"You built your fortune on federal shipping defense contracts, Mr. Sterling," Voss explained, sliding a digital folder onto the dining table.
"Contracts that carried a strict national security clause prohibiting foreign equity transfers."
"For three years, your eldest son, Julian, has been laundering twelve percent of those federal contract funds through a shell company in Panama to cover your third-row real estate losses."
Julian’s face turned an ashen, sickly shade of grey. "Dad... I..."
"Shut up!" Silas barked, his calm facade finally cracking into jagged pieces. "This is a setup! You have no proof!"
"We have the complete digital ledger, Silas," I said, stepping closer to the table. "Extracted directly from your private server four minutes ago when Voss bypassed your secondary firewall."
"You thought you were untouchable because you bought local judges and district attorneys," I added, looking at the eight brothers standing around the table.
"But you forgot that when you steal from the federal defense budget, you aren't playing against local police anymore."
May you like
"You're playing against us."
