Chapter 5 - Unmasking the Eight Sons

The room descended into pure, frantic panic as the reality of their situation settled into the brothers' minds.

Caleb tried to back away toward the secondary terrace exit, but Reaper stepped into his path, his massive frame blocking the doorway like an iron wall.

"Where are you going, Caleb?" I asked, my voice dropping into a quiet, chilling register.

"I didn't do anything!" Caleb stammered, his posture collapsing as he held up his bruised hand. "It was an accident! She tripped on the rug!"

"I listened to the audio recording from the hospital cafeteria, Caleb," I said, pulling my secure phone from my pocket and pressing play.

The speaker filled the dining room with Caleb’s own recorded voice: “Her soldier husband can't do anything... What's he going to do? Salute us to death?”

The cold, mocking laughter of the eight brothers echoed off the dark mahogany walls, sounding terrifyingly clear in the quiet room.

Silas looked at his sons, then at me, his eyes wide with a sudden, desperate realization.

"Elias... please," Silas choked out, using my first name for the first time in six years. "She’s my daughter. We can fix this. I'll give you fifty percent of the development trust. I'll buy you the best medical care in the country for her recovery."

I walked up to Silas, looking him directly in the eyes.

"My daughter died in that hospital room tonight, Silas," I whispered, every word laced with a cold, unyielding fury that made the old man flinch.

"No amount of money in your bank accounts will ever buy her back."

"And no amount of legal power will ever save your sons from the sentences they are about to serve."

Major Bishop stepped forward, signaling to his officers.

"Caleb Sterling, Julian Sterling, Marcus Sterling... you are all under arrest for federal financial fraud, corporate conspiracy, and felony domestic assault resulting in loss of life."

The steel handcuffs clicked shut around their wrists one by one, the sound echoing through the grand room where they had spent a lifetime believing they were untouchable.
