Chapter 6 - The Collapse of the Vance Empire

By 9:00 PM, the grand ballroom of the Vance Grand Hotel had transformed from a luxury gala into an active federal crime scene.
Three uniformed federal marshals walked down the center aisle, presenting Thaddeus Vance and Seraphina Sterling with immediate arrest warrants for grand larceny, corporate wire fraud, and systematic forgery.
Seraphina wept hysterically as the steel handcuffs clicked around her manicured wrists, her white silk gown rumpled as she was guided toward the exit past her former socialite friends.
Senator Sterling tried to intervene, but federal officers served him with an immediate subpoena for his role in authorizing fraudulent zoning permits.
Thaddeus stood frozen near the stage, his tuxedo jacket removed, his face hollow as he watched his corporate titles stripped away in real time by the unanimous vote of the board of directors.
Julian Vance was officially reinstated as the primary Managing Partner of the Vance Grand Group, while one hundred percent of the Hayes Harbor Terminal assets were restored to my private name under an unappealable court order.
As the officers guided Thaddeus past me toward the heavy oak doors, he turned his head, his eyes filled with a pathetic, desperate longing.
"Allara... please," he sobbed, his voice raw. "I loved you! Everything I did was to build an empire for us!"
I looked at him, feeling zero anger, zero regret, and zero pain.
"You didn't build an empire for us, Thaddeus," I said softly, stepping back into the warm light of the ballroom.

"You built a cage."
"And tonight... I unlocked the door."
