Chapter 5 - THE BOARDROOM RECLAMATION

The grand executive boardroom of the Vale Meridian Group was a breathtaking monument to old-money power and absolute judicial finality.

The room was packed with senior investment partners, international compliance directors, and corporate attorneys, all waiting for the scheduled integration meeting.

Evan Whitmore sat at the defense table, his hands clutched tightly in his lap, his handsome face looking hollowed out and pale under the bright LED lights.

Beside him sat Vanessa, her designer linen suit wrinkled, her eyes wide with an aggressive, defensive fury as she tried to maintain her aristocratic composure.

"This is a domestic dispute that has been completely blown out of proportion by an emotional, pregnant woman," the defense attorney declared.

"My clients have operated with the highest degree of corporate integrity, and these temporary financial freezes are a violation of their rights."

"The rights of your clients ended the moment they attempted to steal thirty-five million dollars to cover a gambling debt," my father's voice boomed.

The heavy mahogany double doors were violently thrown open, and I walked through the threshold, my simple maternity wear replaced by a sharp, tailored black wool suit.

Beside me walked Grant Shaw, his posture rigid and commanding, his fingers holding the metal drive containing the decrypted home security records.

Behind us walked a team of six armed federal marshals, their gold shields gleaming under the lights as they surrounded the defense table.

"Claire?" Evan gasped, his face turning an pasty shade of wet ash as he realized his wife was no longer the quiet woman from the kitchen.

"You... you can't do this to me! We are still legally married!"

"Not as of nine o'clock this morning, Evan," I said, my voice carrying the absolute weight of a sovereign officer.
