Chapter 4 - THE DIGITAL TRAP

The sterile, fluorescent lights of the private medical laboratory cast a pale, cold glare across the metal table.

It was 3:00 AM, and my older brother, Captain Marcus of the Federal Treasury's Forensic Division, was rapidly entering data into his secure laptop.

I sat in the plastic chair beside him, my eyes fixed on the scrolling rows of financial transactions displayed on the screen.

Clara was resting quietly in the adjoining recovery room, a warm thermal blanket draped over her shoulders under the supervision of Dr. Bennett.

"The toxicological report is completed, Daniel," Marcus said, his voice dropping into a low, professional whisper.

"They found massive, chronic traces of a high-grade neuromuscular blocker in Clara's blood work."

"It's a restricted clinical sedative called Tetrodotoxin-D."

"In small, daily doses, it induces extreme fatigue, cognitive confusion, and severe motor instability without leaving any obvious chemical trace."

"Evelyn was systematically poisoning your wife to build a fraudulent medical record of clinical hysteria."

"And the financial records, Marcus?" I asked, my voice carrying a freezing, absolute authority.

Marcus clicked his mouse, displaying a series of decrypted bank logs from a shell company registered in Panama.

"It’s exactly what we suspected," Marcus said, pointing to the highlighted corporate names on the monitor.

"Your mother, Evelyn, has siphoned forty million dollars from the Bennett Group's employee pension fund to cover her bad real estate debts."

"She needs Clara's shipping patents to secure a massive loan from the central bank before the federal audit closes on Friday morning."

"If the patents aren't transferred to her holding company by noon tomorrow, the entire Vance-Sterling dynasty will face immediate, public bankruptcy."

"They are completely desperate, Daniel."

"They have already scheduled an emergency board meeting for ten o'clock tomorrow morning to finalize the merger using a forged power of attorney."

"They think Clara is too weak to stand trial, and they think you are too blinded by your grief to fight back."

I stood up slowly from my chair, my hands clenching the edge of the metal table as a slow, cold smile finally appeared on my face.

"They thought they could use our home as a battlefield," I said, my green eyes flashing with a predatory focus.

"But they have only succeeded in building the very prison cells they are going to rot in."

"Marcus, prepare the federal warrants."

"We are going to let them host their beautiful board meeting."

"And then, we are going to drop the sky on their heads."
