Chapter 5 - THE GALA OF EXPOSURE

The grand executive boardroom on the ninetieth floor of the Bennett Tower was a breathtaking temple of corporate power.
The air was thick with the suffocating scent of expensive cigars, imported orchids, and the impending reckoning of a corporate execution.
Thirty of the city’s most prominent investment bankers, board directors, and high-society attorneys sat in high-backed velvet chairs around the massive mahogany table.
At the head of the table sat my mother, Evelyn, her deep crimson sequined evening gown glittering brilliantly under the bright LED lights.
Beside her stood Julian, his navy suit tailored perfectly, his face carrying a smug, victorious grin as he organized the legal documents.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Evelyn announced, her smooth, high-society voice carrying a chilling, theatrical sweetness.
"Tonight, as we prepare to finalize the integration of our maritime shipping lines, we celebrate the absolute consolidation of the Bennett estate."
"Due to the tragic, ongoing mental and physical instability of my daughter-in-law, Clara, our committee has assumed full guardianship over the trust patents."
She raised a gold-plated fountain pen, preparing to slide the nib across the final signature line of the multi-million-dollar agreement.
"The signature on those documents constitutes federal wire fraud, Evelyn," a cold, clear voice cut through the boardroom like a razor-sharp wire.
The heavy mahogany double doors of the boardroom were violently thrown open, the wood panels vibrating against the stone frame.
I walked through the threshold, my head held high, my posture rigid, commanding, and completely unbreakable.
I wore an immaculate, custom-tailored dark gray business suit, my eyes carrying a lethal, crystalline focus.
Beside me walked Clara, her pale yellow dress looking clean and elegant, her hand resting proudly on her pregnant belly.
Behind us walked Captain Marcus and a team of six armed federal marshals, their tactical vests displaying the gold shields of the Treasury Division.
"Daniel?" Evelyn gasped, the gold pen slipping from her shaking fingers and clattering loudly against the polished mahogany table.
Her face turned an instant, pasty shade of gray under the warm light of the chandeliers, her knees buckling slightly as the reality of our return struck her mind.
"What is the meaning of this?" Victoria shrieked, her high-society composure entirely evaporating into a mask of raw, animalistic panic.
"Security! Remove this trespassing, mentally unstable woman from our board meeting immediately!"
May you like
"The security team doesn't work for you anymore, Victoria," Marcus Bennett announced, his voice carrying the absolute, military authority of a federal raid.
"And your private empire of lies is officially over."
