Chapter 4 - THE CORPORATE EXTRACTION

The next morning arrived with a pale, sharp sun that did nothing to warm the glass towers of the Mercer Development Group.
At exactly 9:00 AM, the international markets opened, and within forty-two seconds, the company's stock value began a historic, unstoppable descent.
Grant Mercer sat in his executive suite, his custom suit wrinkled, his hands trembling as he stared at the red warning lights on his screen.
His mother, Beatrice, burst through the double doors, her designer handbag shaking in her hand, her face a pale mask of absolute terror.
"Grant! The bank has frozen our personal accounts!" she shrieked, slamming her phone onto the mahogany desk.
"They are saying there is an administrative review regarding our recent acquisitions in McLean!"
"They are claiming we used fraudulent collateral from the public housing fund!"
Grant looked up, his eyes bloodshot, his confidence entirely stripped away as the sound of sirens began to echo through the streets below.
"It’s her brother," he whispered, his voice cracking into a dry, desperate rattle.
"She knew, Mom... she was reading the Cayman files while we thought she was sleeping."
"She didn't just block our credit; she has initiated a total, non-negotiable liquidation of our silent investment trust."

Before Beatrice could answer, the heavy double doors of the lobby were pushed open, and a team of federal marshals stepped onto the floor.
"Grant Mercer, you are under arrest for federal bank fraud, corporate embezzlement, and domestic coercion," the lead officer announced.
