Chapter 3 - THE AUDIT OF VENGEANCE

The transition from a hospitalized patient back into the calculated focus of an elite military investigator was seamless and entirely silent.
While Daniel and Vanessa were celebrating their incoming defense contract at their high-society dinners, my forensic team was systematically stripping their corporate structure down to the raw iron.
Inside my private VIP recovery suite, Captain Miller, our lead forensic accountant, sat across from me, her screen displaying a detailed, multi-year transaction ledger that made the room turn cold.
"He didn't just use your signature for the local country club memberships, Colonel," Miller explained, her voice dropping into a low, clinical whisper as she displayed the offshore routing numbers.
"Over the last fourteen months, Daniel has been siphoning defense department procurement funds through a series of shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands."
"He believed that because you were deployed in the Pacific, because your mail was routed through a secure military post office, you would never look at the joint household balances," she added.
"He believed your silence was an open door to fund his mistress's lifestyle and clear her parents' defaulted real estate debts," I stated, my face remaining completely calm as I reviewed the scans.
"He forgot that my command specialty is logistics interdiction, Miller; I have spent my entire career finding where corrupt men bury their panic inside paperwork."
"The warrants have been fully executed by the Treasury Division," she confirmed, a cold, sharp satisfaction coloring her professional tone.

"The local police in their district have already been coordinated to prevent any domestic interference when the asset freeze goes live."
"We are going to let him believe he has won until he reaches the front lawn of your home on Friday morning," I said, a dangerous, crystalline focus settling behind my eyes.
