Chapter 5 - Unmasking the Thorne Syndicate

By 8:00 AM the following morning, the story of the raid on Silver Street had shattered the polished facade of the Thorne family.
News crews gathered outside the regional federal courthouse as Captain Vance’s unit executed secondary search warrants across three corporate headquarters owned by Arthur Thorne.
Inside the federal briefing room, I sat across from Federal Prosecutor Sarah Sterling, presenting the complete evidence package:
The 23-minute recorded satellite phone call capturing Audrey’s cries and Julian’s admission of "discipline."
High-definition 4K bodycam footage from the tactical entry displaying Audrey’s physical injuries and the locked confinement room.
The unedited financial ledger linking Arthur Thorne’s real estate trust to illegal payoffs made to city officials and prosecutors over a decade.
Prosecutor Sterling closed the binder, her eyes wide with a combination of shock and professional admiration.
"Mr. Hayes," Prosecutor Sterling said, leaning across the desk. "This isn't just an aggravated domestic violence case anymore. This is a federal racketeering and public corruption indictment."
"I want them all, Sarah," I stated, my posture rigid, my tone carrying the absolute weight of a father who had reached his limit.
"Julian for felony kidnapping and aggravated assault. Arthur for bribery, witness intimidation, and corporate fraud. And Miriam as an accessory to illegal confinement."
"They won't get bail," Prosecutor Sterling promised firmly. "The emergency magistrate has already approved a non-bailable federal hold based on the flight risk data your ledger provided."
I stood up, adjusting my jacket, looking out the floor-to-ceiling glass windows at the city skyline.

They had called me "just an Army mechanic," assuming an old, retired man with no money or social standing could be easily intimidated and pushed aside.
They had forgotten that some men spend their lives learning how to build engines... and others spend their lives learning how to tear down empires.
