Chapter 2 - THE FREEZE OF ASSETS
The steady hum of the ICU's air filtration system felt like a heavy weight pressing against my chest as my father stepped forward.
William Sterling did not raise his voice; instead, his gaze locked onto Garrett's face with a freezing, calculated focus.
"I think your time for excuses ended tonight, Garrett," my father said, his tone carrying the absolute weight of a sovereign executive.
"The registry is officially closed, and the trust accounts are no longer under your administrative authorization."
Garrett took a panicked step backward, his phone slipping from his fingers and clattering loudly against the cold linoleum floor.
"William, please, this is a family tragedy, and we shouldn't let minor domestic issues cloud our primary interests," Garrett stammered.
"The company’s integration requires my active signature on the regional development contracts by tomorrow morning."
"The only thing you are going to sign tomorrow morning is a federal deposition, Garrett," my father replied with absolute calm.
"I have already instructed our legal team to execute an emergency freeze on every single joint bank account registered in your name."
"You believed your relationship with Melissa was a secret, but my forensic auditors have been tracking your transfers for six months."
