Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM RECLAMATION

The early morning sun of Tuesday did nothing to warm the frosted glass windows of Vanguard Strategic’s central headquarters.
Garrett sat in his executive suite, his hands clutched tightly in his lap, his handsome face looking hollowed out and pale.
Beside him stood Melissa, her designer coat wrinkled, her eyes wide with an aggressive, defensive fury as she tried to maintain her composure.
"This is a personal dispute that has been completely blown out of proportion by an emotional woman!" she shrieked.
"We have operated with the highest degree of corporate integrity, and these temporary financial freezes are a violation of our rights!"
"The rights of your clients ended the moment they attempted to steal my son's legacy," my voice boomed through the room.
The heavy double doors of the boardroom were violently thrown open, and I walked through the threshold, my simple hospital wear replaced by a sharp, tailored black wool power suit.
Beside me walked my father, his posture rigid and commanding, his fingers holding the metal drive containing the decrypted financial records.
Behind us walked a team of six armed federal marshals, their gold shields gleaming under the lights as they surrounded the defense table.
"Claire?" Garrett gasped, his face turning an pasty shade of wet ash as he realized his wife was no longer the quiet woman from the kitchen.

"Not as of nine o'clock this morning, Garrett," I said, my voice carrying the absolute weight of a sovereign officer.
