Chapter 3 - THE GALA OF THE UNMASKED

The grand dining room of the Winchester Manor was a breathtaking monument to old-money luxury, the air thick with the suffocating scent of roasted turkey and expensive champagne.

Under the towering crystal chandeliers, New York’s most prominent billionaires and investment bankers raised their glasses to celebrate the upcoming merger of Bennett Logistics.

Victoria Vance stood near the head of the long mahogany table, her pink designer blazer tailored perfectly, her face a mask of smug, triumphant satisfaction.

Beside her stood Julian, his dark blue business suit immaculate as he raised a gold-plated pen to sign the final, irrevocable integration deeds.

On the polished table in the foreground lay a smartphone, its camera lens actively recording the entire ceremony to broadcast the family's victory to their international shareholders.

But the festive warmth of the room was violently shattered as the heavy double doors of the dining hall were thrown open with a deafening thud.

I walked through the threshold, my head held high, my posture rigid, commanding, and completely unbreakable.

Beside me walked Emma, her eyes wide with a protective fury, her hand resting gently on my shoulder as we stepped onto the polished wood.

But it was the small, fragile figure standing between us that made the entire room of eighty guests freeze in absolute, paralyzed silence.

Lily stood in the center of the room, wearing her cream-colored lace dress, her tiny fingers trembling as she clutched her pink bucket hat.

Hot, silent tears streamed continuously down her pale cheeks, catching the brilliant light of the chandeliers as she looked at the aunt who had betrayed her.

"What is the meaning of this intrusion, Rachel?" Victoria shrieked, her high-society voice rising into a sharp, desperate panic as she tried to block the camera's view.

"This is a private corporate meeting, and your daughter is clearly experiencing an unstable emotional episode!"

"Show them what you did to my daughter, Lily," I commanded softly, my voice carrying a cold, crystalline strength that echoed off the vaulted ceilings.

Lily slowly, deliberately lifted her pink bucket hat, exposing her completely shaved head and the large white band-aid covering the bloody cut near her temple.

A collective, horrified gasp swept through the crowd of eighty high-society guests as the live-streamed camera captured her tear-stained, ruined face.

The golden princess of the Winchester family was unmasked on her own stage, her multi-million-dollar conspiracy exposed to the entire world.
