Chapter 6 - The Reckoning at the Boardroom

At 9:00 AM, the master boardroom on the twentieth floor of Lawson Logistics was filled with senior board members, major institutional investors, and news reporters from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Margaret and Brenda sat in the back row of the gallery, looking disheveled, terrified, and utterly humiliated as federal marshals monitored the doors.
Andrew sat at the defense end of the table, flanked by a court-appointed public defender after his private legal team resigned due to non-payment of retainers.
I sat at the head of the long mahogany table, wearing my ivory suit, presiding over the emergency meeting as the primary trustee of the Escalante Group.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Arthur Vance announced to the silent room, "by unanimous vote of the primary debt holders, Andrew Lawson is hereby stripped of his position as Chief Executive Officer of Lawson Commercial Logistics, effective immediately."
The reporters' camera flashes exploded across the room like lightning, capturing the image of Andrew sitting bowed, broken, and completely ruined.
Margaret stood up from the gallery, crying hysterically. "Mariana! How can you be so heartless?! He is your husband! You're destroying our family name!"
I turned my head slowly, looking at the woman who had spent four years mocking my clothes, my manners, and my background.
"I didn't destroy your family name, Margaret," I said, my voice quiet, clear, and projected across the entire room.
"You and your son destroyed it yourselves the moment you believed money gave you the right to abuse people."
Two federal marshals stepped forward, clicking steel handcuffs around Andrew’s wrists as they presented him with grand jury indictments for corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and domestic assault.
Brenda tried to sneak out through the side exit, but two female officers intercepted her, serving her with an immediate asset forfeiture order for the luxury goods purchased with stolen corporate funds.
Andrew was guided past my chair in chains, tears streaming down his pale, hollow face.

"Mariana... please..." Andrew sobbed, his voice raw and pathetic. "Give me one more chance!"
I didn't answer him. I simply offered him the exact same quiet, calm smile I had given him in the rain the night before.
