PART 3: THE SHOWDOWN IN ROOM 304

PART 3: THE SHOWDOWN IN ROOM 304
By 9:00 a.m. the following morning, the morning sun was cutting sharply through the blinds of Room 304. Danielle sat up in the hospital bed, her expression smug as she adjusted the collar of her silk robe.
David stood beside her, his navy blue blazer immaculate, holding a thick leather folder containing the quick-claim property deeds and the divorce waiver forms.
The door pushed open, and Eleanor Salvatore stepped inside, her diamond rings catching the harsh fluorescent light. She looked around the room with her usual superior air, ignoring the medical equipment entirely.
"Is the girl coming?" Eleanor asked, her voice dripping with aristocratic disdain as she looked at David. "I don't want to spend my morning waiting for Camila to sign over what she couldn't earn."
"She’s already here, Mother," David said, his smooth, courtroom-trained voice echoing off the sterile walls. "She's on shift. I've already instructed the floor nurse to have her step in during her rounds. She feels guilty enough about her... condition... that she won't cause a scene."
I walked into the room, holding a medical tablet, the double doors clicking shut behind me.
David turned, a practiced, sympathetic smile instantly spreading across his face as he held out the pen. "Camila. Thank God. Look, I know this is difficult, but Danielle’s blood pressure is spiking. For the sake of my daughter, we need to finalize the separation quickly so we can transition her to the new property."
I didn't take the pen. I didn't look at the paper.
I walked straight to the bedside monitor, checking Danielle's stable vital metrics with total composure.
"Your daughter is perfectly healthy, David," I said, turning to face the three of them. "But she isn't your daughter."
Eleanor let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "What kind of desperate lie is this, Camila? Just because your body failed this family doesn't mean you can project your malice onto—"
"Marcus, bring him in," I interrupted quietly.
The door opened, and Marcus Bell walked in, flanked by Ivan and a uniformed private security guard. Ivan kept his eyes fixed on the floor, but his presence made Danielle’s face instantly turn the color of ash.
"David," I said, pulling a folded sheet of paper from my lab coat pocket and laying it flat on the bedside table. "This is the original fertility profile from the specialist in 2018. The one that confirmed your absolute, irreversible zero sperm count. The one I hid for eight years to save your precious pride while your mother called me empty."

David blinked, his hand trembling as he reached for the paper. "No... that's impossible. Danielle is pregnant. We have the tests..."
"The tests belong to Ivan," Marcus Bell announced, opening his briefcase to reveal a certified prenatal DNA report obtained via an expedited legal court order. "The child carries a 99.9% match to the gentleman standing next to me. Furthermore, Mr. Salvatore, as of five minutes ago, your firm’s primary operating accounts have been entirely frozen due to systematic asset dissipation and fraud."
