Part 2: The Timeline of Deception

The hum of the ultrasound machine felt deafening in the silence that followed.
Daniel’s hand began to shake against the edge of the metal cart, his eyes darting frantically between the monitor and Dr. Anderson.
"Four months?" Daniel stammered, his old-money arrogance completely evaporating. "But... but my procedure was eight weeks ago. That means..."
"That means this pregnancy occurred two full months before your vasectomy, Mr. Mitchell," Dr. Anderson stated, her voice slicing through his panic like a surgical blade.
"The biological data is absolute. Your wife didn't step outside this marriage. You abandoned a woman carrying your twins."
Vanessa stepped back, her heels clicking weakly against the linoleum floor as she looked at Daniel with a sudden, vicious realization.
"Four months ago, Daniel? You told me you hadn't touched her in a year! You told me your marriage was completely dead!"
"Vanessa, wait, let me explain—" Daniel pleaded, reaching out, but she violently slapped his hand away.
"You lied to me!" she shrieked, her high-society composure shattering into raw, unedited embarrassment. "You used me to bankroll your divorce strategy! I’m not being dragged into a fraudulent hidden-asset lawsuit!"
She grabbed her designer handbag from the chair and stormed out of the trauma bay, the heavy door slamming shut behind her.
I slowly sat up on the table, straightening the collar of my ivory blazer, entirely unbothered by the dramatic exit.
"Marital expenses, Daniel," I murmured, recalling the ruthless divorce folder he had slid across the café table the day before.
"I believe your exact words were that if the child wasn't yours, I would have to reimburse you for years of financial support."
Daniel looked at me, his face a pale, sweating mask of absolute defeat as he realized the legal trap he had built for me had just snapped shut on his own neck.
"Lauren, please," he whispered, stepping closer to the bed, his voice trembling. "We can fix this. The stress... the vasectomy was a mistake, I was just panicked about the future. We can go home and tear up the divorce papers."

"The house is mine, Daniel," I replied, looking down at my gold watch with a deadpan, freezing clarity. "My attorney filed the emergency asset preservation injunction twenty minutes ago, using your online public posts as evidence of malicious abandonment."
"You wanted a fast divorce," I added, looking him straight in the eyes. "And I promise you, you're going to get one."
